Newborn Session Details

Newborn Information Form –On location

Congratulations and thank you for choosing Blessed Memories to photograph the most fleeting stage of your child's life ... the first few days. Below, I have enclosed the information pertaining to a newborn session with Blessed Memories. It is my hope that you will find this information helpful as you prepare for our session together. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

• For sessions in your home, I will arrive a few minutes early so that I can set up my equipment (if needed). If it is alright with you, I will wander from room to room to see where the lighting is best for our needs. Please know that I do not expect a tidy home! The first few days (who’s kidding, the first few years!) your home will be turned a bit upside down. This is VERY normal. I fully expect your home to be like the home with any new baby, so please don’t fret if the house doesn’t look perfect. I'd like to then touch base with you again on any ideas or vision you had for the session. I mostly use natural light in my images, but will bring my portable studio if need be. My style is to get some natural shots around your home, such as near a window, but also may use backdrops that I will bring.

• Please feed your baby before I arrive so that he or she has a full tummy. Also, if you'd like shots of your baby undressed, please undress him/her and loosen diaper, then wrap your baby in a blanket, and feed him/her. Otherwise, your baby may get upset at being undressed when they were so cozy. I do like to photograph a newborn mostly in little to no clothes. Please note that many clothing changes may make your little one upset, so it is best to do birthday suit shots and possibly one outfit.

***Aim for an awake time just prior to my arrival for the baby (during or just after feeding) so that baby will be more likely to be sleepy and curl well for photographs. This can be hard to do when you are preparing for the shoot, however just simply dress them very loosely so that they aren't in a snuggly deep sleep.

• Regardless of the weather outside, please turn up the heat a bit in your home prior to my arrival (approx 75 degrees Farenheit). Babies are most comfortable without clothing when the adults are sweating just a little. I will be bringing a space heater as well. You will find that undressed babies who are cool tend to be very cranky.

• I often use the parents as backdrops for baby, so please wear something solid in color. White, cream or light grey are great options. Also, an extra set of clothes for the parents is a good idea, just in case. Mom and dad are welcome to join for pictures with baby at no extra charge.

• Please know that there is no rush with a newborn session. I like to give special attention to each client, especially newborn sessions. Please know that I do not mind waiting for you to nurse or change baby, or taking a break to soothe your baby.

• When arranging the poses where the baby is undressed, it is normal (and okay!) for him or her to "relieve" him or herself on my backdrop ... or anywhere else. I can assure you this happens all the time and I am not upset or offended. I will be using baby wipes, extra diapers and a towel to ensure your comfort. After each newborn session I am sure to launder all of my backdrops and other items the baby comes in contact with.

• If you have additional children, please ensure an extra set of hands to help with the sibling(s) once their picture has been taken. Also, please note that other cameras and other recording devices are not permitted.

• Lastly, please have a list of “must haves” images (close-ups with feet and hands, with someone, etc.)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. My phone number is 519-632-7279.

Thank you and congratulations again on your new addition!

Sandra E.
